Friends
"The One with Chandler in a Box"

Chandler sits in a box as penance for kissing Joey's girlfriend, but will he stay there?

Chandler entered his apartment and found his best friend packing a bag.

"Where are you going, Joe?"

"To stay with my folks while I look for another apartment."

Chandler grabbed the bag away from Joey, saying "C'mon, you've gotta forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you - it just happened. Should I stop seeing her? Is that what you want me to say?"

"It's not about her, it's about you. I can't live with someone who doesn't know what it means to be a friend. You don't kiss another guy's girlfriend."

"I don't want to lose you as a friend, Joe. Isn't there something I can do? Anything?"

"At first I thought we could talk this out, but now I don't think so. Remember during the robbery, when I was locked in the entertainment unit for six hours? You know what I thought about that whole time? How I had let you down. But now that I know the kind of friend you turned out to be, I shouldn't have worried about it."

Chandler continued to plead. "You know what? If we still had that entertainment unit, I'd get in it for six hours and think about how much I let you down."

A smirk crossed Joey's face as he looked at the big wooden crate he'd been using to pack some large items.
"Hey, we got a box."

A while later, Joey, Chandler, the box and the whole gang were in Monica's apartment for Thanksgiving dinner. Chandler had promised to stay in the box and think about what he'd done, and the others started on the dinner.
As they discussed whether Monica should date Richard's son, Chandler couldn't help offering his opinion that it was a bad idea.
Joey rushed over from the kitchen table and lifted the lid off the box.

"Chandler, you've got too much thinking to do to be talking and making jokes. You know, I thought this might work, but if you're not gonna take it seriously you might as well get out of the box now. C'mon, get out!"

Chandler stood up, saying "I'm sorry, Joe. I really am thinking about our friendship."

"I don't think you are." Joey motioned toward the kitchen towel hanging on the door of the stove. "Monica, you wanna throw me that towel?" Monica tossed the towel over, as Joey said, "I think we need to make sure you concentrate on why you're in the box."
With that Joey rolled up the thin towel and put it in Chandler's mouth, wrapping it around his head.

"Yuck, Joey, I've gotta use that towel," said Monica.

"Don't worry. I'll wash it before I give it back." Joey turned to Chandler. "Now, are you gonna sit quietly and think?"
Chandler shook his head affirmatively and sat back down in the box as Joey replaced the lid.

The gang resumed eating dinner, but before long another dispute broke out. Suddenly, Chandler said from inside the box, "You can't see it, but I'm mooning you all to break the tension."
Joey, even madder now, yelled, "That's it! That's it!" and ran out of the apartment. Chandler popped the lid off the box and stood up, contrite.

"You took off the gag, didn't you?" asked Phoebe.

"Very observant of you to notice that," said Chandler. "I blew it, didn't I?"

A moment later Joey stormed back into the room, carrying the sash from Chandler's bathrobe. "Is this whole thing a joke to you?" he asked Chandler. "Cause if it is, we can just stop this now."

"No, this is really important to me. Just give me one more chance. I swear I won't say another word tonight."

"I'm gonna make sure of that. Give me your hands," Joey said, moving around behind Chandler.

"Joe, is this really necessary?" Chandler asked, as Joey began using the sash to tie Chandler's hands behind him.

"It looks that way, doesn't it?" said Joey as he replaced the gag in Chandler's mouth. "Now, this should keep you quiet. This is your last chance."
Chandler sat down awkwardly in the box, and Joey put the lid back on.

After dinner the rest of the gang, except for Chandler, were watching TV when the doorbell rang. Joey answered it to find Kathy, his girlfriend.

"I just wanted to say I'm sorry," she said.

"No, Chandler's the one I'm mad at."

"Is he here?"

"He's in the box."

Phoebe and Rachel explained the situation to Kathy and she approached the box.
"You not being able to talk might make this easier," Kathy said. She went on to say that she didn't want to come between such good friends, and she didn't think she and Chandler should continue seeing each other.

Just after she left, Joey ran over to the box and removed the lid. "C'mon, get up," he said, helping Chandler to stand up and removing the gag. "Go after her."

Chandler stepped out of the box. "You mean it? Are we gonna be..."

"Yeah, we're gonna be all right," Joey said with a grin as he reached out and hugged Chandler - a one-sided hug, as Chandler's hands were still tied.

Chandler started toward the door but turned back to Joey after a moment, saying, "Uh... you wanna?" and thrusting his hands toward Joey.

Joey untied his friend, and Chandler ran out the door after Kathy.
